The Legend of The White Buffalo: The Legend developed from the story of two braves on a scouting mission for food,who were returning to the tribe empty handed when they saw a white buffalo calf running towards them.As The calf approached them,she turned into a beautiful women.The first warrior saw the calf as a gift from The Great Spirit,and began to pray.The other warrior took the unpure thought to take the lady as his wife.While the first prayed,while the other brave reached out his hand to touch the lady and in a cloud was reduced to a skeletal remains.The lady told the reverent brave to return to his people and recount what he had seen with the promise that she would return the next day with a gift for them.
The following day the people erected a alter to The White Buffalo Calf Lady and waited for her arrival.As she approached they saw she carried a large bundle-the gift that was promised.She layed the bundle on the alter,unwrapped it and produced the beautiful Sacrid Calf Pipe which would be used to celebrate life.She instructed the people on it'scare and use,along with guidance to the values of proper living.Before leaving she told them she would return when the world was in confusion and out of balance.Her arrival would bring harmony and unity amoung people and nations.
As she left she rolled over once,and turned into a black buffalo.
She rolled over again and she was red,
Again and she was yellow and on the final she became the wonderfulwhite buffalo.
This legend has been passed from generation to generation through the keeper of The Sacred Calf Pipe.With the Birth of a miracle;a female white buffalo calf in Jamesville,Wisconsin,the centuries old prophecy surrounding the mysterious white buffalo calf was fulfilled.
